Set on the edge of a quiet lake in Salford, this large rear extension reimagines a family home with generous internal space, panoramic views, and strong connections to the landscape.
JCD Architecture + Planning designed the scheme to enhance the site's unique setting. The stepped rear garden and full-width glazed façade create a seamless transition between indoor living areas and the outdoor environment, making the most of the uninterrupted views across the water.
Glazing has been specified to balance openness with comfort—incorporating measures to reduce solar glare and overheating, while still drawing in natural light and capturing reflections off the lake.
At roof level, a series of glazed elements introduce daylight deep into the floor plan, supporting a bright and airy feel throughout. A combination of crisp render, warm materials and clean lines ensures the design reads as contemporary but considered—quietly confident in its context.
